Finding a Hobby as an Adult

Finding a Hobby as an Adult

I recently posted a question on my Instagram Story asking people what their hobbies were. Several people reached out to tell me theirs and a few others said they don’t have one but would like to. This got me thinking… as an adult, finding a hobby can be pretty darn difficult. Between work, trying to balance a social life, a consistent skincare routine and everything else, it can be tough to find the time for a hobby.

However, it’s important to make time for something that makes you happy. We all have bad days or weeks and a hobby can help make those better (for me – sometimes a nap works too but hey, self-care comes in many forms depending on the person and day). I had to do some soul-searching to figure out my hobbies. Check out some of my hobbies below:

Gina’s Hobbies:

  • Cooking
  • Reading
  • Blogging
  • Stand Up Paddle Board
  • Yoga
  • Walking Outdoors

If you are also taking some time for self-reflection and want to try out a new hobby, here are some suggestions:

September Intentions

September Intentions

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog then you know I love setting intentions each month. These are things that I’m striving to work on. I always encourage you guys to do the same but I know it can be tricky to come up with on your own! To help you set your own intentions for September, I’ve put together a worksheet.

Keep reading to find out what intentions I am setting this month.

My September intentions:

  • Spend more time outside and exploring nearby places
  • Enjoy time with loved ones
  • Pause throughout the day and take 3 long rounds of breath
  • Avoid spending money when I’m bored or am in a bad mood (yes, if you know me then you know retail therapy is my jam)
  • Practice 1 form of self-care every day

At Home Teeth Whitening: Does it Actually Work?

At Home Teeth Whitening: Does it Actually Work?

Anyone else love coffee, tea or red wine but don’t enjoy the stains it leaves on your teeth? I’m a big tea and wine drinker and suffer the consequences with stained teeth (it definitely makes me self conscious but I do love my tea and wine). I was so excited to partner with Smile Brilliant to test out their whitening T3 Sensitive System with custom fitted trays AND we are doing a giveaway so you guys have the chance to win a free kit for yourselves (details further below).

I’m excited to walk you guys through the whitening process and show you my before/after photos! I really started noticing results after 8 sessions of whitening. See the photos below and notice the difference for yourself!

Before/After (8 sessions):

Before I get ahead of myself, I want to share the initial process of making my impressions for the custom fitted trays. I received my kit in the mail that had the putty and plastic trays to make the dental impressions along with the prepaid postage and packaging to mail them back in. They also include the whitening and desensitizing gel syringes in the initial package so you can hold onto those to use once you receive your custom fitted trays.

It was simple to make the top and bottom impressions myself while following their instruction guide and they send you extra putty in case you mess up (we’re all human, it happens). Once you mail-in your impressions, Smile Brilliant then creates your trays and mails them back in 3-5 business days.

Once the trays arrive in the mail, the real fun begins. I was excited to try my first whitening session right away. To start, brush teeth with only water and squeeze a thin layer of the whitening gel onto the top and bottom trays and keep on teeth for 45 mins-3 hours. The team at Smile Brilliant advised me to start at the lower end of the time range to gauge comfort level. Pro tip: coat gums in Vaseline if you have sensitive gums (like me).

Once you finish whitening, brush teeth with toothpaste, clean trays and squeeze a thin layer of the desensitizing gel in the trays and leave on for 15-30mins. Once you are finished, remove trays and clean them off. Store in the container for your next session! It’s seriously so easy.

My history with whitening products? Previously, I used the Crest Whitening strips and haven’t had much luck with results because the strips didn’t stay in place! The Smile Brilliant trays are comfortable, discreet and work for people with sensitive gums.

You can try Smile Brilliant for yourself and get 15% off your purchase coupon code: geenicolette15

Happy whitening!

T-Shirt Versatility

T-Shirt Versatility

When it comes to shopping, who else likes to feel good about their purchases? I know I do. When deciding if I should buy something apparel related, I ask myself if it’s an item I already own and if so, how can I get the most use out of it and how is it different than what I already have?

Sometimes that’s a hard question to ask myself because the result usually ends in me not being able to justify the purchase. However, when it comes to t-shirts, I seem to always find a way to justify the purchase ;). Mainly because graphic t-shirts are so different, unique and versatile!

I’m sharing some of my favorite Tees and how I like to style them for different occasions:

Pair with jeans: a simple and easy way to pair your t-shirt is with a pair of jeans. I was dressing up a causal date night outfit and threw on some jewelry, a fedora and a pair of sandals. Cute for dinner and comfy for a movie or a stroll along the river!

Shoes: YAS Elegance Boutique

Pair with shorts: when the weather is in the upper 90s and your clothes are sticking to you, comfort is key (while still being stylish, of course). I love that this t-shirt isn’t like any others I own. Aside from having a 90s pop icon printed on the shirt, I like the rolled sleeves and cut outs at the bottom. This was a causal outfit I wore to brunch but it can easily be worn with some skinny jeans, heels and a leather jacket for a ‘cool’ vibe (maybe even throw on a mood ring, tattoo choker necklace and rock out to “Baby One More Time” to fully relive the 90s dream).

Pair with yoga pants: I call this my “getting stuff done look”. As I mentioned before, comfort is a priority for me. After all, I need to be comfortable when sippin’ on a mimosa ;). But really, I wear a lot of yoga clothes whether I’m practicing, teaching or running errands in them. The staff at Joriki suggested I tie a knot in my “Look Forward Give Back” shirt to give it more of a fitted and chic look if I’m wearing it out and about. It’s safe to say I always tie this shirt up and I have it in every color available.

Pair with a skirt: I love a good skirt and t-shirt combo. It easily elevates a t-shirt and makes it appropriate for a dressier occasion. Add some heels and a blazer for the complete work outfit!

Shoes: Macy’s

Pair with a cardigan: You can never go wrong with throwing a blazer or cardigan over a t-shirt. On days when I’m feeling more casual, I opt for a solid color cardigan. If I’m feeling like kicking it up a notch, I’ll opt for a a dressier cardigan or blazer.

Happy styling!

July Intentions

July Intentions

The other year I started setting intentions rather than New Year resolutions as a way to evaluate things I wanted to work on and change in my life. A few months ago while scrolling through Instagram, I saw someone post their intentions for the month. I loved this idea because our personal goals, mantras or things we are working on change month to month (sometimes even day to day). This is something I’m starting to incorporate into my life and invite you to do the same!

I’m sharing a few of my intentions for July:

  • Get my body moving everyday (morning and nighttime stretching)
  • Clean and get rid of things I no longer need
  • Read a book I’ve been wanting to read
  • Try new recipes
  • Show gratitude for loved ones and kindness to strangers
  • Be more present in the moment
  • Take more time to listen

What intentions are you setting this month?

Easy Snack Ideas

Easy Snack Ideas

Anyone else a big snacker? I love a good meal but I also love to snack throughout the day. I tend to crave salty and sweet, which gets me in trouble when I have cookies or chips around 😉. I’ve put together a few of my favorite delicious and easy snacks. I hope you enjoy!

Rice Cakes + Tea: Quaker Oat’s Gluten Free rice cake topped with Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter, banana slices and sprinkled with Safe + Fair’s Chocolate Granola. I paired this with Adagio’s Peach Oolong and added in a splash of lemon ginger juice that I get from my local yoga studio.

Coco Whip + Berries: So Delicious’ Dairy Free coconut whipped topping paired with fresh berries is a great snack and dessert!

Banana Logs: I’m sure you’ve heard of the kid snack known as ants on a log (which is still delicious to eat as an adult in case you were wondering). I’ve made my own twist on the snack and call them ‘Banana Logs’. I thinly slice a banana and spread Justin’s Peanut Butter. Top with whatever you’re in the mood for: chia seeds, granola, chocolate, fruit, etc.

What are your favorite snack recipes? Share with me in the comments below!

Happy snacking!
