Keep Calm & Holiday On

The holidays can be extremely stressful. There’s so many things on your to-do list and you often feel like there’s not enough hours in the day to get it all done. I’m sharing a few tips to help you stay calm during the holidays!

Don’t procrastinate: Whether it’s shopping for gifts or something else, just start doing it! We always put off the things that are stressful but if you can get ahead of it, you can sit back and relax (kind of) when it’s finished.

Get organized: Make a list of the things that still need to be completed. Write down the people you purchased gifts for an add in the people that you still need to buy for. The same thing goes for holiday parties. Add all of your holiday gatherings on a calendar so you can see them mapped out (maybe even start a shared calendar with your friends, family or significant other to get them organized too).

Stay hydrated and try to eat healthy: During busy times we forget to drink water. The holidays are filled with fun cocktails, which are my favorite kind, but often leave me feeling dehydrated and bloated the next day. Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after drinking alcohol. I like to add in some fresh fruit to my water so it has a little flavor!

Get your body moving: Get up and stretch. Standing in line at the store, sitting down for long periods of time while ordering gifts on Amazon and sitting in a car driving place to place takes a toll on your body. Be sure to take a break and stretch. This can also be a great time to become more mindful and have a moment of silence and focus on your breathing.

Set boundaries: Be sure to put some boundaries in place. Avoid letting yourself become so stressed that you forget the true meaning of the holidays. If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break and walk out of the store or ask someone to come shopping with you to keep you company and make it a fun outing! Grab some lunch before heading to the next store. Set any other boundaries you need during holiday gatherings.

Watch a holiday movie and listen to music: Turn on your favorite holiday movie or song to get you excited.

Lastly, embrace the chaos! Find some joy in the holiday chaos. Drive through neighborhoods to see the beautiful light displays/decorations, make plans with loved ones and fully embrace your time together, or do whatever your favorite holiday traditions are (maybe even start some new ones)!
