October Intentions

October Intentions

Somehow it’s already October, which means another month to set intentions or in my case, try harder to work on last month’s intentions (hey, no one’s perfect). It also means it’s the season of watching Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town. In all seriousness, I believe that a new month symbolizes new beginnings and a fresh start.

Here’s what I’m focusing on this month:

  • Recite affirmations to myself daily in the mirror (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it)
  • Avoid spending money when I’m bored or upset (an intention I set for September and am still working on)
  • Cook more and try new recipes
  • Disconnect and unplug more to enjoy quality time with loved ones
  • Unfollow accounts that are no longer bringing me joy (Marie Kondo your social media)

Set your own October Intentions! If you need some a little inspiration or guidance in setting your own intentions, I’ve put together a worksheet to help you. If you want to share your intentions, comment below or tag me on Instagram @geenicolette.

September Intentions

September Intentions

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog then you know I love setting intentions each month. These are things that I’m striving to work on. I always encourage you guys to do the same but I know it can be tricky to come up with on your own! To help you set your own intentions for September, I’ve put together a worksheet.

Keep reading to find out what intentions I am setting this month.

My September intentions:

  • Spend more time outside and exploring nearby places
  • Enjoy time with loved ones
  • Pause throughout the day and take 3 long rounds of breath
  • Avoid spending money when I’m bored or am in a bad mood (yes, if you know me then you know retail therapy is my jam)
  • Practice 1 form of self-care every day

Small Changes to Relieve Daily Stress

Small Changes to Relieve Daily Stress

Ever have those days that seem like you just can’t catch a break? You wake up feeling rushed and are in a hurry to get to your destination on time. I’m sharing a few tips to help relieve unnecessary stress (let’s face it, we can all shed some stress from our lives).

  1. Pick out your outfit the night before work. This is a big one for me! I feel more put-together when my outfit is picked out and I can get ready in the morning with ease.
  2. Unplug before bed. Give yourself 30 minutes to an hour before bed to stop scrolling through social media and let your mind (and eyes) rest before sleeping.
  3. Spend 5 minutes in the morning to yourself. Set your alarm clock 5 minutes earlier and be still. I like to sit in the dark with my oil diffuser on and enjoy the quietness before starting my day. It’s also a great time to meditate or get in some stretching.
  4. Breathing exercises. Spend time throughout your day taking deep breaths. Set reminders on your phone to take deep breaths (I like to count to 4 on my inhalations & exhalations). Release your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Relax your shoulders away from your ears. Unclench your jaw. Just let go of tension in your body.
  5. Drink water. Staying hydrated can keep your stress levels down. Enough said.
  6. Get your body moving. Get up and stretch, go for a walk or workout. Do something to clear your mind and get any built up tension out.

May Checklist

May Checklist

Happy May! To get the month started, I’ve created a yoga and wellness checklist for my followers. I invite you to switch up your routine and try some new things this month. You may find something you like!

How many things can you check off?

  • Practice a new style of yoga (Vinyasa, Yin, etc.)
  • Practice visualization (close your eyes and think of your favorite place)
  • Meditate for 5 minutes
  • Close your eyes and listen to a sound-healing meditation (I love finding videos on YouTube. Check this one out)
  • Dedicate your yoga practice to yourself
  • Dedicate your yoga practice to someone else that you want to send love and positive energy to
  • Put together a playlist of your favorite songs (maybe practice yoga to it, play it in the car, listen in the shower. Find some of mine here.)
  • Practice yoga in a new space (roll out your mat in a different room in your house, try a new studio, get outside)
  • Tell someone how much they mean to you AND show them
  • Make a gratitude list
  • Deep breathing exercise (come to an easy seat or lay down, place one hand to your heart and the other to your stomach. Inhale for the count of 4, hold it at the top, and then exhale out for the count of 4. Continue until you reach a 6 or 7 count)
  • Give someone a compliment
  • Smile at a stranger
  • Get rid of something you no longer need (spring cleaning time!)
  • Create boundaries (this will look different for everyone)

In honor of Thanksgiving, I am putting together a gratitude journal. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle, but it’s important to take a moment and appreciate everything we have. I have included daily prompts for your journal leading up to Thanksgiving and invite you all to participate.
If you would like to share what you are grateful for, please share with me on Instagram and tag me @geenicolette

Gratitude Journal Prompts:
Monday, November 19th

Tuesday, November 20th
Write a list of 10 people you are grateful for
Wednesday, November 21st

I am SO grateful for you all!
Happy early Thanksgiving.

Finding Home Away From Home

Finding Home Away From Home

Sometimes traveling or being away from our homes can make us feel a little uneasy. My yoga class intention for last week was about finding home in your mind and body. There are some places we visit that remind us how much we miss home and there’s some yoga postures that make us feel uneasy (camel & wheel for me).
During these times, it’s important to focus on the things that ground us. Our breath, intention, a person, place, etc. If you feel like you’re searching for grounding while being away either mentally or physically, I have a few tips to share!
1. Get into a routine
I’ve noticed that a routine helps my mind and body stay on track. Maybe that’s finding a gym, yoga studio, or reading a few chapters from your book each night.

2. Journal & Meditate
Take some time to slow down and journal. Journaling helps me process my feelings, emotions, but also write down a gratitude list. If you need a little inspiration on what to write about, you can find the meditation journal I use here.
3. #Treatyoself
Sometimes you need to feed your soul. Find a coffee shop or bakery and treat yourself to a coffee, tea, or in my case, a cookie dough cupcake! Maybe read a magazine, listen to your favorite playlist or a podcast while your enjoying your treat.
XOXO,
Gee Nicolette
